Unlocking potential of Vietnam’s tech ecosystem Tuesday, March 11, 2025 | 17:16:34 - The 2025 international conference on Artificial Intelligence and Semiconductors, AISC 2025, will take place in Hanoi and Da Nang from Wednesday to Saturday, under the theme "Shaping the Future: Connecting AI and the Global Semiconductor Industry." The conference presents a crucial opportunity for Vietnam to embrace the latest global technological trends and affirms Vietnam’s readiness for international collaboration to unlock its tech ecosystem potential. Director of the National Innovation Center Vu Quoc Huy speaks at the opening of AISC 2025. The Politburo’s Resolution 57 identifies scientific and technological breakthroughs, innovation, and national digital transformation as the main driving force toward rapid, sustainable, and prosperous development. Vietnam has boosted international cooperation in technological development and application to form innovation ecosystems for spearhead sectors like AI and semiconductors. AISC 2025 is an important step toward achieving the targets set by Resolution 57. Getting ready to welcome tech giants Director of the National Innovation Center Vu Quoc Huy said the conference aims to replicate successful model of cooperation between Vietnam and world tech giants like NVIDIA.“NIC aims to bring together key players in the semiconductor and AI ecosystem while expanding its network of domestic and international partners to drive the development of Vietnam’s AI and semiconductor industries. This initiative will support Vietnam’s goal of creating breakthrough momentum for scientific and technological advancement and innovation in the new era.” AISC creates opportunities for Vietnamese businesses and experts to connect with a network of more than 1,000 investors and leaders of technology corporations around the world, including Google, Intel, TSMC, and other companies from Silicon Valley , Taiwan , South Korea, Japan, India, and China. Topics will include shaping the future of AI and semiconductors in Vietnam and internationally; using AI in semiconductor manufacturing and chip design; interactions between semiconductors and artificial intelligence; and global cooperation policies and strategies. A high-level policy forum will be attended by Vietnamese leaders. Exploring Vietnam’s technology potential According to Bloomberg Intelligence, the global semiconductor market was valued at approximately 500 billion USD at the end of 2024 and is expected to grow to 700 billion USD this year, driven by AI. Amid the rapid growth of the semiconductor and AI industries, Vietnam has emerged as a prime destination for global investors, thanks to its stable political environment, investment-friendly policies, young workforce, and strategic position in the global supply chain. Leading technology corporations like Intel, Amkor, Marvell, Qorvo, Qualcomm, Synopsys, and NVIDIA have already established RD centers and AI data centers in Vietnam. This is catalyzing Vietnam’s technological advancement and creating a ripple effect of even more high-tech investment. Tomas Konigs, a diplomat with the Netherlands Embassy in Hanoi, said that Vietnam is emerging as an increasingly important factor in the global semiconductor supply chain. It's making significant advances in the fields of semiconductor chips, as well as packaging and testing. "Opportunities for Vietnam in the supply chain of equipment so far have not been fully exploited. Therefore, international cooperation is extremely necessary and the Netherlands is ready in this opportunity," said Konigs. Ranjan Sharma, an expert on ASEAN Economy at JPMorgan, said Vietnam has a golden opportunity now to make a huge leap forward in AI and semiconductors.“Vietnam has great potential for AI, with a growth rate of about 30% per year. In IT processing services, its human resources are growing rapidly and many companies are investing in technology, applying cloud computing. I think Vietnam may be at the forefront of AI in Southeast Asia,” according to Sharma. AISC will give Vietnam insights into the global semiconductor and AI industries, foster international collaboration, and position Vietnam as a future AI powerhouse.
