Vietnam backs UN’s central role in global coordination Tuesday, March 11, 2025 | 18:48:37 -Vietnam strongly supports multilateralism and the UN’s central role in coordinating global efforts, said National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh. Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh meets with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Speaking at the meetings with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and President of the UN General Assembly Philémon Yang on the sidelines of the 69th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York on Tuesday, Ms. Thanh proposed concrete measures to enhance cooperation between Vietnam and the UN and strengthen parliamentary collaboration to align the National Assembly more closely with the UN’s key objectives and initiatives. She called for increased opportunities for Vietnamese nationals, particularly women, to work at UN agencies. She also urged the UN to support ASEAN’s role in maintaining regional security, particularly in ensuring compliance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea . Secretary-General Guterres expressed his appreciation for Vietnam’s contributions and accepted an invitation from President Luong Cuong to visit Vietnam at a suitable time.
